Confirm the redundancy is genuine
A genuine redundancy arises from the employer's economic or organisational needs, not from replacing you with someone on the same role. The employer should apply fair selection criteria and explain them.
Check notice and the Fund qualification
Notice periods scale with length of service. A payment from the Redundancy Fund generally requires a minimum period of employment with the employer and is calculated from your wages and years of service.
Submit the Fund claim and recover other amounts
Apply to the Fund within the allowed time and claim unpaid wages, accrued holiday and notice pay separately from the employer. If the employer is insolvent, other statutory funds may cover wage arrears.
