Data Sources, CBA Verification & GDPR (LIA)
How LawCy verifies legal practitioners in the Republic of Cyprus and processes public professional registry records under EU Regulation 2016/679 (GDPR).
1. Primary Official Sources
- Cyprus Bar Association (Παγκύπριος Δικηγορικός Σύλλογος) Public Register: Cross-referenced nightly for advocate English & Greek names, registration numbers, court box numbers, and district bar associations. cyprusbar.org
- CyLaw Legal Portal: Primary public database of Cyprus statutes, Cap. 2 (Advocates Law), Cap. 113 (Companies Law), and Supreme/Appellate Court judgments. cylaw.org
- Republic of Cyprus Government Portal (gov.cy): Civil Registry and Migration Department (CRMD), Department of Lands and Surveys, and Registrar of Companies official fee schedules.
2. Verification Status Definitions
Every advocate profile carries an explicit machine-verified status:
- VERIFIED (Licence verified): Matched with ≥ 0.90 confidence against the active CBA register (or confirmed by operator review for 0.70–0.90 matches).
- PENDING (Verification pending): Awaiting automated or operator cross-check against the CBA register.
- NOT_FOUND (Not in CBA register): Record no longer present in the public register; profile is automatically delisted from public search results pending review.
3. GDPR Legitimate Interest Assessment (LIA) & Advocate Opt-Out
Processing of public professional registry data is conducted under Article 6(1)(f) GDPR (legitimate interest in consumer protection and verification of regulated legal practitioners). Advocates may exercise their right to rectification, restriction, or immediate erasure/delisting at any time via our removal request form. Client consultation inquiries are transmitted only to the advocates explicitly selected by the user and are anonymized after 24 months.
